How to send video files for publications
Only 3 types of videos files are suitable for publication on the GWAVA.com website. these are :
- .flv video files
- full page flash video files, with all of its associated files
- encapsulated swf files such as on the top flash banners
Also acceptable are youtube.com embedded links.
Sending a FLV video file
If you have a FLV video file, simply send it to Marie-Christine Colle with the location where you want it to appear.
This is the preferred video format, as it allows TYPO3 to display the video file using it's own flash player which means that the website navigation remains accessible for the user.
It also means that it will be possible to collect statistics on how often the video page was viewed.
For a FLV file to be included, it's width needs to be a maximum of either :
- 500px, which allows to retain the right column navigation
- 730px, which means the right column will need to be removed for that page
If all you have is a .avi file, please convert it to FLV format prior to sending it to Marie-Christine Colle, as GWAVA.com currently only supports FLV files.
Sending a full page flash video (Such as from Camtasia)
If your video file is a lot wider than 750px and if all you have access to is a series of .swf, .xml and .html files, please send a .zip file of all of the needed files to Marie-Christine Colle.
Your .zip file must typically contains :
- At least one .html file
- At least one .swf file (but typically 2, see below)
Many flash video application, such as camtasia, will include 7 or more files. If your video is named "gwava46", the most important files would be named :
- gwava46.html
- gwava46.swf
- gwava46_controller.swf
- gwava46_control.xml
You might also have the following files:
- gwava46_preload.swf
- gwava46_nofp_bg.gif
- gwava46.js
- swfobject.js
- ProductionInfo.xml
It is important to send all of the files in the same .zip file. Failure to include one of the files may result in a broken video player.
When you send a full page flash video files, there are several drawbacks when compared to sending a FLV video files :
- Less efficient file management
- Loss of website navigation (the user MUST click back to continue)
- Lack of statistics
Unacceptable Video Formats
If you send a video file in the following formats, you will need to convert it to one of the above format before it is posted :
- Standalone .swf, without player controls
- AVI, MP4 or MOV files
- Standalone .swf, with external player controls, but without all of the associated files.
