GWAVA Features Built Exclusively for GroupWise

    Administration

    Email Surveillance

Monitor users' mailboxes or give the ability to Human Resources or other auditing groups to watch for offensive content, without alerting the user.

    Post Office Scanning

Email viruses penetrate from many different sources. GWAVA provides the only means for protecting and cleaning up your Post Office after you have been hit by a virus. Post Office Scanning by GWAVA allows you to sweep your GroupWise Post Office clean from dormant viruses that might have penetrated your perimeter defense.

    Administrator-defined notification messages & options

All notification messages are provided through templates. These templates are extensively modifiable, using a special markup language. Hence highly personalized and language localized notification messages may be provided, dependent on the specific environment.

    Multi-Platform Support

GWAVA 4 boasts a new architecture that supports GroupWise running on NetWare, and SUSE Linux. Administration is handled through a single web interface for all changes across your enterprise.

    Protected Memory support

GWAVA is utilized within a Cluster environment and can be a very useful tool. All GWAVA programs can be loaded into protected memory. An abend by another program or by GWAVA itself is isolated in its effects to that particular address space and does not affect the overall health of the server.

    Clustered NetWare environment

GWAVA supports the NetWare/SUSE Clustering environment - if one GWAVA node fails, GWAVA can fail over to another Netware/SUSE cluster node. This allows for a 24x7 high availability environment.

    Anti-Spam Features

    Smart Blocker

Smart Blocker technology inside of GWAVA keeps your system up-to-date with the latest tactics used by spammers. It learns and builds on its knowledge of spam. By analyzing your incoming email, Smart Blocker is able to determine the unique needs that your organization has and is able to see what kind of email is legitimate and what kind of email is spam. GWAVA incorporates the revolutionary Smart Blocker technology, allowing each GWAVA installation to learn how your organization defines Spam. This ensures the highest percentages of spam protection in the industry, at the same time reducing the problem of false positives. Smart Blocker if fed spam and ham messages can build optimized scores via a sophisticated genetic algorithm that can maximize your spam catching capabilities. Smart Blocker also lets you define new rules, and suggest a best score for them. It's easy to quickly find out if a new rule will be effective - or cause false positives With GWAVA 4, SmartBlocker has been merged with an Artificial Intelligence Engine and automatically configured learning sources to allow SmartBlocker to auto-learn your email. This allows SmartBlocker to evolve with your changing email to ensure ongoing protection from SPAM. By learning what emails you release from the quarantine, the emails you send out and accept, SmartBlocker learns what is and is not good email to your organization. This is the most advanced technology in the continuing battle against unwanted email.

    Spam Tagging

After GWAVA scores each message, Spam Tagging is able to flag a message with a different subject based on the score received. Harmful spam, that scores high, is able to be flagged as such, while more benign spam or even messages that are simply suspect can have the subject line "Tagged" to show a new subject. Administrators may choose to delete all spam. Many GWAVA customers choose to delete spam because no administration or handling is necessary, and it allows them to further reduce their costs. Administrators may also choose to modify a spam message by altering the subject line and spam engine score. Alternatively, administrators can tie GWAVA to GroupWise 6.5's new Junk Mail folder and send all spam into the Junk Mail folder instead of the Inbox. A free utility for creating rules to perform a similar function in pre-GroupWise 6.5 systems is provided.

    Multi-spam thresholds

Multi-spam thresholds allow GWAVA to treat each individual email differently based on the scoring of the message. Scored messages that have a moderate spam score can be flagged as potential spam, while extremely high scores can be deleted and purged automatically. This flexibility ensures that valid email is able to pass through the system while spam is captured and eliminated. RBL GWAVA supports automated RBL services. An RBL service compiles a list of known spammers. You may configure GWAVA to compare all inbound mail against one or several RBL-such as MAPS, ORBS, and Spamcop-and the RBL s will protect your company from blacklisted spammers.

    Address Blocking

Do-it-yourself blacklists that reject e-mail arriving from specified addresses or domains. Getting flooded with spam from "getrichquick.com"? Blacklist it with GWAVA Address Blocking!

    Content Filtering

GWAVA's robust Content Filtering tool scans the subject, body, and attachments of messages for words or phrases you wish to stop. It can be used to save lost time weeding through unwanted messages, and it can keep confidential information from being leaked via e-mail. Spammers change their e-mail addresses or domains to work around black-hole lists. Content filtering protects you by blocking spam-from both known and unknown sources-by filtering spam-like content such as "hair restoration", "herbal Viagra", "debt consolidation", and case sensitivity more. Content Filtering lets you decide what words and phrases are typical of spam and also watch for offensive words used or trade secrets being disseminated.

    Heuristics

Heuristic Rules are one of several layers of spam defense. These rules search each message for a list of spam characteristics and attribute a spam score to the message accordingly. GWAVA's heuristics have been designed to be highly accurate. GWAVA introduces powerful, highly accurate algorithms that make intelligent decisions on whether an e-mail message is spam. Simply set a tolerance level for spam, and GWAVA's Anti-Spam Heuristics will take care of deciding what Spam is.

    End user spam release tool

Within the Digest Notification, end users have the ability to release any individual email without contacting their GroupWise administrator. Released emails quickly appear in the end user mailbox, saving end user and administrator time and effort.

Spam Digest Notification in a single email

With GWAVA's Digest Notification, end users are sent a single email with a summary list of all emails blocked as spam.

    Anti-Spam/Content Management Features

GWAVA deploys SURBL anti spam technology. SURBL stands for Spam URL Realtime Blocklists. Unlike RBLs which attempt to blacklist spam based on the sending IP address of the mail server, SURBLs find the common element in the spam email - the URL of the links inside the message. GWAVA compares email URLs to URL blacklists effectively blocking spam that bypasses traditional RBLs.

    Anti-Virus Features

    24/7 Anti-Virus Protection

GWAVA Anti-Virus protection is the only solution that protects Novell GroupWise from the inside out. GWAVA literally scans every single piece of email and all its attachments that pass inside a GroupWise system, whether they originate from off the Internet or inside your own corporation. This means that GWAVA protects you like no other product can from email virus attacks.

    Multi-Vendor Anti-Virus protection

GWAVA Anti-Virus protection is able to protect your GroupWise system by using up to three Anti-Virus products simultaneously. GWAVA integrates seamlessly with a number of Anti-Virus NLMs to scan all e-mail traffic-inbound and outbound-for viruses. Because GWAVA operates at a low level in your network architecture, Viruses are stopped before an outbreak can cost you thousands of dollars in lost time and data.

    Email Attachment Blocking

A second line of defense, Attachment Blocking offers blanket protection against file attachment types typically associated with spreading viruses. Why wait, for example, to find out a VBS script is a virus that even the Anti-Virus vendors haven't caught up with yet? Block all VBS files with GWAVA's Attachment Blocking and save yourself from battling the latest viruses. Attachment Blocking controls content by stopping the flow of attachment types that typically distract employees from their work-such as MP3s and executable jokes/games. Specific file names can also be blocked to keep important documents within the company. GWAVA's attachment blocking options can stop specific filenames-such as HAPPY99.EXE-as well as wildcard filenames and types-such as *.EXE or HAPPY*, the latter blocking not only the HAPPY99.EXE but also the more recent variant, HAPPY00.EXE. These settings are particularly useful in stopping the spread of Visual Basic Scripts-*.VBS-which are commonly propagated through email. Whether through wildcards or exact filenames, the attachment blocking options are fully customizable to better protect your network.

    Oversized Attachment Blocking

Many of the files in transit via e-mail are quite large. A typical MP3 file is 3 to 5 MB. GWAVA's Oversized Attachments filter limits the size of messages that can be sent or received by people in your organization. Restricting message size saves time and bandwidth.

    Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is a means of identifying a file type without relying on the file extension. Many email viruses will change the document file extension to fool an Anti-Virus solution into thinking that the file is benign. GWAVA is able to determine the type of file it is and block the file based on its Fingerprint rather than on its file extension. This allows you to protect your GroupWise from viruses that have not been released yet that use a known format like .exe or .scr. The latest generation of viruses show up cleverly disguised as other file types. GWAVA's new Fingerprinting feature examines files to see what type they really are. Many people have figured out that changing a file extension can help it sneak past attachment blocking measures. Fingerprinting opens a file to verify its file type, and can stop the flow of things like AVIs that have been renamed as other file types. Save lost employee time and bandwidth by using fingerprinting to control message content. GWAVA can catch various attachments that are Windows Executables that have been renamed. In the growing Linux world, RPMS can also be blocked. We can also block exploits such as the recent MS JPEG exploit and the password-protected zips produced by some viruses.

Scanning & Quarantine of internal GroupWise messages

GWAVAs MTA agent intercepts all messages passing through GroupWise MTAs. This means all Internet mail as well as all internal mail that is inter-post office (cross post offices) can be monitored and scanned real-time. In addition, GWAVA offers a POA agent that can run at scheduled intervals and be used to scan and quarantine viruses in the Post Office. (GWAVA WASP can be used for additional WebAccess protection).
