Retain is an enterprise archiving solution for Novell GroupWise from GWAVA, rich in features and functionality.

Retain supports all of the GroupWise 8.x functionality, taking advantage of any improvements as they are made available in GroupWise. If you are running GroupWise 8, you will want Retain!

The Retain worker runs on Linux, Windows and NetWare for maximum flexibility. The Retain server runs on either Linux or Windows. Use the combination of operating systems you want and be assured that Retain always supports the latest versions.

Retain and its components are supported in virtualized environments.

Retain lets you choose from some of the most popular database formats – Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL and PostgreSQL.

Search on multiple criteria including internet header capture to quickly locate the archived emails you need. Also with Retain, you can share saved searches in the database so that other auditors and users can view results and re-use searches.

Retain uses the SOAP protocol and the trusted application key to access the GroupWise message store.

With Retain, you never keep multiple copies of the same message or attachment, saving you money on storage space.

Retain will help you expand your archiving storage options. It supports archiving your emails using the Amazon S3 storage cloud computing service.

Retain supports storage platforms such as EMC Centera, NetApp Snaplock and Hitachi HCAP for WORM functionality and long term storage. Retain also facilitates the storage of messaging data in a document management system such as Open Text LiveLink to eliminate silos of corporate data.

Retain offers flexible options so you can archive the data you want to save when you want to archive it. Define data lifecycles through any number of policies that you set up. Over time, Retain will automatically store the data based on your administrator-defined retention policies. Retain also provides granular control over the date, content and frequency of information you select for deletion. With Retain’s end user ACL (Access Control List), you can submit a list of proposed deletions and perform a dry run before actually purging data. This way, you can double check information to be deleted and better enforce organizational policies. In addition, you can opt to include or exclude users and their various mailboxes from an archive indexing job.

To protect any email that may potentially be involved in future litigation, Retain lets you exclude an archived item from any deletion or actions until the hold is removed. You can put a litigation hold on an individual item or on all mail for a user.

Retain offers two different options for indexing your email database. In addition to its built-in Lucene indexing engine, Retain supports the Exalead indexing engine, which is extremely robust, to handle very large systems.

For those customers using the built-in Lucene indexing engine with Retain, new indexers have been added to Retain version 2 to allow searching through WordPerfect and Excel files.

Extended auditing features let you and security personnel pick out patterns of users deleting or forwarding email and even identify the recipient of forwarded messages and attachments. Retain audits all activities related to email archiving, including when an email is archived, who has reviewed it, forwarded it, searched for it and exported it. Retain also audits all changes to retention policies and the Retain server itself.

Export individual or multiple emails, complete mailboxes, multiple mailboxes or entire post offices. With Retain, you have the control to export only those emails you need and enjoy the portability options offered only by Retain.

Retain makes it easy to select the contents of your archives or search results for exporting. You can preview an archived item before opening it up in a new browser window or tab. Export the items quickly to PDF – storing your exported archives in the popular and lightweight format. The exported PDF file is fully indexed, searchable and includes a table of contents for easy browsing. All attachments are embedded for easy saving and opening.

For more scalable exports such as entire mailboxes or multiple mailboxes, you can use the all-inclusive Retain publishing client. The Retain publisher offers a built-in viewer and stores messages in an encrypted database. This option is ideal when more robust security and scalability is needed.

With Retain, you can easily and quickly move into your Retain archive from within the GroupWise client and WebAccess. Requires GroupWise 8.01. 

GroupWise 8 introduced a stubbing API for seamless integration between the GroupWise message store and the archive. Retain is built directly on the GroupWise 8 stubbing API so that if you decide to use stubbing, you can be sure you have the most reliable and efficient archiving solution available.
