Retain is an intelligence tool designed for legal and compliance auditors. Retain  has the ability to maintain oversight in real-time of all PIN, SMS text messages and phone usage data communications for all smartphones authorized on your BlackBerry® Enterprise Server

Real-Time means protection of intellectual property (IP). Now you can minimize the possibility of information leaks through misuse of company BlackBerry® SmartPhones.

Currently only email messages that pass through your BlackBerry® SmartPhones and your BlackBerry Enterprise Server can be archived by an email archiving program.

Retain archives all SMS messages, PIN messages and phone call usage data in an SQL database for long-term electronic data retention. None of this data can be altered or deleted at the SmartPhone level.

As mentioned earlier, Retain now also gives you the ability to deliver all PIN, SMS messages and phone call usage data as pieces of email to your email archiving solution which supports SMTP.

Searching the Retain archive data for discovery is intuitive, granular and fast.  Search by individual or groups/departments using numerous parameters and criteria.

Retain for BlackBerry Enterprise Server has the ability to export phone usage data, SMS and PIN messages into .xls, .pdf, or .xps formats for evidentiary review and assessment by your legal and audit teams.

When SMS, PIN messages and phone call logs are being audited, it is critical to maintain data integrity. Retain for BlackBerry Enterprise Server ensures that only authorized personnel can access the data and that no modifications can be made by BlackBerry® SmartPhone users.

The Retain Import tool allows an adminstrator to determine:

• which smartphone users' data will be archived
• the specific data per smartphone user to be archived

Retain's Rights Management feature allows administrators to specify for each auditor:

• which smartphone users' data they can view
• which functionalities of the Retain Archive Viewer discovery and management tool they will have
• the specific data they can view for each smartphone user they have access to.

This empowers management, because it allows them to set access to sensitive accounts for key personnel with appropriate security clearance.

All auditing activities are logged in the audit trail of Retain. You can audit the Auditors.
