GWAVA’s unique SmartBlocker technology keeps your system up-to-date with the latest tactics used by spammers. It learns and builds on its knowledge of spam. By analyzing your incoming email, SmartBlocker determines your organization’s unique needs and separates legitimate email from spam. SmartBlocker contains two engines, each of which approaches spam differently.

The probability engine makes use of artificial intelligence to maximize your spam catching abilities. It lets you define rules and learns from received spam, evolving into better and better spam protection. The GWAVA signature engine locates known spammers based on their signatures and blocks them. Continually updated information about spammers and spam attacks is fed into the signature engine so you can stop it before it clogs up your post office. 

GWAVA’s many layers of spam blocking functions include: 

• Address blocking—create your own blocklists.
• Content filtering—scans the subject, body, and attachments of messages for words or phrases you wish to stop. Content filtering not only saves time, but helps you prevent confidential information or offensive words from being disseminated. 
• Heuristics—these rules search each message for a list of spam characteristics and attribute a spam score to the message accordingly. Its accuracy means that GWAVA can determine what is spam so you don’t have to.
• SURBL technology—using SRBLs (Spam URL Realtime Blocklists), GWAVA finds common URL links inside the spam email itself.
• IP reputation scanning—filters messages based on the sending server's IP address (including greylisting).
• Conversation tracking—GWAVA tracks your conversations so that crucial replies and threads aren’t caught in the spam filter.
