Julie Slavens joined the Indiana School Boards Association staff in April 1991. Her primary duties as staff attorney include review of board policies and school corporation policy manuals, legal analysis of policies, and aid to local school boards in developing and updating current policies and manuals. In addition, she is also available for consultation on general legal issues related to education, school board issues and state and federal employment laws and regulations.Ms. Slavens has over twenty years of experience in labor, employment and education law. She received her undergraduate degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1983 and her juris doctorate degree from Memphis State University in 1986. She has worked for the law firms of Parrish, Knight, and Beal, and Gallucci, Hopkins, and Theisen, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She also worked for the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Rights Commission as its staff attorney for a year.
