MONTREAL, QUEBEC—March 8, 2005—GWAVA, the leading provider of Novell GroupWiseÐ software solutions today announced that it has acquired Submersion Corporation, provider of GEE Whiz software, a security product for GroupWise and NetMail that helps nearly 1,000 businesses worldwide protect their servers from viruses, worms and spam. GWAVA will use this acquisition to further provide its customers with new solutions to help protect them from malicious software.
GroupWise customers face a complex set of attacks through their e-mail and collaboration infrastructure," said Charles Taite, Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of GWAVA. "With the addition of GEE Whiz, we're excited to be able to provide an expanded level of protection that delivers advanced file and content-filtering capabilities. In this way, customers get choice, high-quality performance and the most up-to-date protection possible.
The acquisition of Submersion plays a key part in GWAVA's GroupWise security strategy, providing anti-virus and anti-spam technologies that shield GroupWise servers and supply customers with multiple layered protection that can help with increased detection rates of malicious software.
We've provided sophisticated protection for thousands of GroupWise mailboxes, and we're excited that through the addition of GWAVA's expertise and contribution, these solutions will be available to even more businesses," said Darryl Bleau, president and CEO of Submersion. "We're proud of the effectiveness of GEE Whiz in providing protection against spam and viruses."
GWAVA's goal is to help secure GroupWise environments without exposing their networks and assets to attack by malicious code. This acquisition will allow GWAVA to make this happen by focusing on the following areas:Layered defenses. It is common practice in business networks to use a set of layered defenses to improve protection against malicious code. Similarly, effective protection of the GroupWise environment requires layers of defense.
Integration with infrastructure. The layers must be tightly integrated not only with each other, but with the rest of the GroupWise system. Without such integration, a security solution can be unmanageable, have poor performance and let attacks through.
Protection from the latest threats. Malicious threats evolve quickly. Whether the attack is an email virus or a slew of unwanted spam, the defense must respond quickly and take advantage of the latest security solutions.
