GWAVA Messenger- June 2010
NCAA Turns off Texting. Retain Turns it Back On.
NCAA rules around recruiting are very specific - no texting to recruits. So what do most universities do? They make all their coaches and recruiters turn off texting completely on their phones to avoid any possibility of abuse.
The University of Detroit Mercy has taken a different approach. It allows text messaging and archives them all using Retain!" for BlackBerry® from GWAVA, running periodic reports to make sure no rules are broken.
"The fact that we have this data is like insurance. It's something you really need to have and hopefully you never need to use it. We don't ever want an NCAA investigation. We are doing everything we can to stay compliant with text messages and phone calls. The only way to say it and mean it is to have a system like Retain."
Steve Corder - Asst. Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance, University of Detroit Mercy
Retain for BlackBerry from GWAVA offers a great alternative to prohibiting texting. Retain securely archives every text message and logs all phone calls made from BlackBerry smartphones on the system on a SQL server. There is nothing to install on the users' phones and Retain runs on your existing hardware. Any time there is even a question of impropriety, it is fast and easy to verify and if necessary, take care of any potential problems quickly.

The Retain for BlackBerry webinar is sponsored by Verizon and RIM.
Reload Saves Data from Migration Disaster
The UK's largest civil service trade union, the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), has 12 post offices running Novell GroupWise® 8 and ZENworks® with around 600 mailboxes. Each night, the main post office is backed up using GWAVA Reload.
Read how Andrew Simpson, head of ITT at PCS, migrated the system and kept GroupWise up and running using Reload. PCS uses many GWAVA products including GWAVA anti-spam, anti-virus to maintain email integrity. They also use Reveal, Redline and Vertigo to manage their GroupWise system.
