Operating systems are like people...they have their own personality. But computers are logical devices that do the same thing over and over again to achieve some desired end result. Computers can't think for themselves and therefore can't make mistakes since they only do what they are told. Makes sense to begin with, but it is people with all their wild quirks who are the ones that tell the software what to do. So by proxy, each operating system has its own personality.
GWAVA will soon be deployed on Windows servers. In GWAVA support, we are learning that Windows has just as many different quirks as the people who worked on Windows. Issues crop up that you would have never guessed due to the different ways the OS interacts with the programs.
What initially began as a quick deployment on Windows, since GWAVA has always been developed on Windows, became a very large project due to all of the underlying differences in operating systems. Cross-platform functionality is never as easy as it sounds.
On the upside, deploying GWAVA on Windows puts GWAVA in a very familiar area. This translates to fewer support calls for us since most administrators are already comfortable working with their Windows server and don't have to rely on obscure Linux or NetWare commands or configurations.
