Every month I do get a german PC magazine called CHIP. Within the current one I found a short but very “crazy” information: The PS3 copy protection was hacked by a guy called George Hotz (alias “geohot”). For more information just google “geohot PS3”. Sony is going to sue this hacker and is going to change their licensing system. This part of the information was not surprising at all. But the reaction of the XBOX vendor Microsoft is really surprising: They are offering this hacker a Windows-7-Smartphone to play around with it.
Is Microsoft (or the guy working at Microsoft, which offered this to “geohot”) just gleefully about what happened to his completion? Or is this a marketing-gag to get a little bit more attention for either the XBOX or the Windows Phone 7?
Whatever the real reason might be, it is a bad move. Microsoft and other software vendors, including us at GWAVA of course do sell software. We earn money, deliver good products and service such as technical support, do re-invest the money to build better solutions for the future. We need to make money, otherwise innovation will go away. Hackers are a real danger for our IT industry and if Microsoft – being one of the top-players within the market is giving away something to hackers, it is a real bad thing.
I really hope, that this guy at Microsoft remembers, who is finally paying his salary. It´s not paid by any hacker, it is paid by all the honest endcustomers and partners.
At this point let me say “thanks” to our thousands of fair-minded customers and partners across the world.
