Cyber-Crime…Keeping Up and Staying Prepared

At GWAVACon, we heard a lot about security and the increasing threat of cybercrime. Kaspersky, a leading anti-virus solution provider, was a key sponsor and provided the group with the latest information. They offered several popular sessions plus Tom Fitzpatrick, Field Marketing Manager for Kaspersky, gave an eye-opening keynote address.

Mr. Fitzpatrick quoted Bill Brenner, Senior Editor CIO Magazine, “Even those companies making sizable efforts to keep their data secure admit it's almost impossible to outpace the bad guys.”

He explained that the only way to effectively combat malware is at the endpoint. No matter how much you protect your servers, viruses are continually attacking desktops via email, internet videos, personal websites, business websites and social media. You not only need aggressive anti-virus software running on the desktops, but you need to make sure that your users are running it! If it’s bogging down their system, they will turn it off.
