GWAVACon EMEA Ereignisse erinnert mich ein Lied Metallica: Nothing Else Matters
It is GWAVACon EMEA time again, tommorow the big show is going to start. I´m again doing the VIP shuttle service - picking up our sponsors and some VIP from Novell (e.g. Ken Muir and Johan Rosius). While I was driving yesterday to the airport to pick up some guys, I was listening to the music in a local radio station. There were playing a fantastic song, which I have heard several times without knowing, which band is playing that song. I took my iPphone and started Shazam, which is a free application for the iPhone. It is kind of recording the music for a few seconds and then sending an information to Apple´s iTunes-Store and then will give you back an information, what song, what band.... The nice thing is - of course that is the reason, why the app is for free - you could directly buy the song and put them into your music database.
The song is from a band called Metallica. To be honest, I never have really heard anything from Metallica. My thoughts about Metallica are, that they do a kind of music, which I normally do not like. The song "Nothing but matters" might be an exception of their normal music. Normally (without Shazam) I would never have bought any song from Metallica. With this song, I´m at least going to check out for other of their songs.
Back to GWAVACon and what does the story about this song has to do with GWAVACon? I think - and that is a reaction I do get from any new single attendee at one of our GWAVACons worldwide - that most people expect GWAVACon to be a GWAVA driven marketing event. On the one hand they are right. The event is driven by GWAVA. We established the brand and the events worldwide, because customer and partners were really looking into these kind of events. The success of GWAVACon worldwide has shown, that there is a "market" for such an event. GWAVA is just fullfilling these needs.
On the other hands, they are not right. Most of the reaction we do get from people visiting the GWAVACon, either in the US, Asia-Pac or EMEA, is, that it is like a (smaller) BrainShare. Novell does offer a lot of sessions and trainings around GroupWise, Teaming, OES, ZENworks, etc. and there are lots of partners like Omni, GroupLink, SkyPro, Advansys, .... showing their solutions and offering trainings and sessions as well. Of course attendees could also attend the GWAVA sessions, but nobody is forcing them. The only "session" they are nearly all following is the evening-party-event. And this year we have something very special in Berlin. I have to keep this as a surprise.....
So if you ever think about attending a great conference with lots about the Novell solutions, GWAVACon should be a "must have" event in your plannings. Besides all the great content, it is also a nice event for socializing. And cities like, Berlin, Las Vegas, Sydney, London do deliver a great surrounding for having some fun in the evening......
To all people attending this years GWAVACon in EMEA: Have fun and enjoy GWAVACon. "Nothing else matters."
Thanks.
