GWAVA Unified Messaging Security: Email, Text

Which anti-virus (AV) engine does GWAVA use?

GWAVA requires the anti-virus engine from Kaspersky, which is fully integrated with GWAVA. For information on the Kaspersky anti-virus solution, go to www.kaspersky.com. GWAVA also includes a zero-day anti-virus engine to make GWAVA anti-virus protection even more robust.

Does GWAVA scan internal mail?

Yes, GWAVA scans internal email for viruses, forbidden attachments and content. GWAVA is the only product for GroupWise that scans email once it is into the post office. It scans within the encrypted message flow in the MTA with post office scans to pick up any other threats that may be introduced through sources such as memory sticks and WebAccess.

How does GWAVA compare to other email scanning products?

Nearly all anti-virus / anti-spam products operate at the gateway as an SMTP proxy solution. GWAVA offers SMTP scanning for any email system using Kaspersky Lab’s world-class anti-virus engine. Not only does GWAVA offer an excellent SMTP solution, but if you are running GroupWise, it also provides unique scanners at the MTA and POA level specifically for GroupWise. No other email scanner offers these additional GroupWise scanners.

Can I remotely administer/monitor GWAVA?

Yes. GWAVA offers a web-based single point of administration to allow remote administration and monitoring from anywhere. GWAVA 5 provides statistical and status-related data concerning all operations of GWAVA from a single interface.  Redline also integrates seamlessly with GWAVA if you need more comprehensive reporting and monitoring.

How much processing time does GWAVA take?

The impact of GWAVA on your server is minimal. In normal conditions, GWAVA will not make a notable impact on your server performance. GWAVA is handling email security for some of the largest GroupWise deployments around the world.

What is the difference between GWAVA and traditional anti-virus products?

GWAVA is the only anti-virus agent for GroupWise that decrypts and exposes email messages within the encrypted GroupWise message flow. The internal protection provided by GWAVA is unparalleled by any other product available for GroupWise.

Why do I need GWAVA in addition to my current AV software?

GroupWise stores all email messages in an encrypted database. Since traditional virus scanners are unable to scan encrypted data, they cannot adequately protect your GroupWise email system. GWAVA helps your anti-virus software protect your network at a different level than it otherwise could. Because GWAVA identifies and quarantines email messages for scanning, it prevents the spread of viruses at a lower level in your network. In addition, since other email-specific anti-virus products function only at the Internet gateway level of your network, they are only able to scan for viruses passing to and from the Internet. Instead, GWAVA works within your GWIA and MTA(s) so that it not only scans messages passing to and from the Internet, but also prevents viruses from spreading within your organization (from post office to post office). To protect against viruses through WebAccess, you can add the WASP product from GWAVA.

How many licenses do I need to run GWAVA on my network?

It is licensed on a per-user basis.

Where can I obtain technical support for GWAVA?

GWAVA comes with 30 days of free technical support or 3 support incidents (whichever comes first). Annual support contracts are also available. Call: 801-437-5678.
