The day began with new arrivals checking in and everyone finding their sessions. Classrooms were full and everyone seemed to enjoy the variety of topics and speakers.

At the keynote before lunch, Ken Muir, Chief Technology Officer at Novell, spoke about Novell’s strategy with collaboration and data management. Exciting new developments include Pulse and “Gradenko,” Novell’s sync technology.

Adam Gray of Novacoast talked about computing in the cloud – different ways you can take advantage of the cloud, including cost tradeoffs for data storage. Then in an exciting turn of events, GWAVAMan swooped in at lunchtime, creating a fun photo opportunity with our favorite security software superhero!

In the evening, everyone was glued to the AFC championship football game between the Saints and Vikings which were showing on the two giant screens in the ballroom. After the Saints won in overtime, much to the thrill of the many Saints fans here, we enjoyed GWAVACon sponsors’ night “speed dating.” Customers went around in small groups to sponsor booths, heard a short promotional speech from each sponsor and got a stamp on their speed dating paper. After speed dating was over, prizes were awarded to randomly drawn attendees. There were some great prizes, including BlackBerrys, iPods and even an HP computer. Not bad for a first date! Exciting football, great food and fun prizes – all in all a great evening!
